2027: Anambra Introduces ₦50m Campaign Permit for Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Others
By Kehinde Awosina
The Anambra State Government has introduced a new campaign regulation requiring presidential candidates, including Bola Tinubu, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and others, to pay ₦50 million before they can display campaign materials or conduct outdoor political activities in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The policy, announced by the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), also places ₦20 million fee on senatorial candidates, ₦5 million for House of Representatives aspirants, ₦2.5 million for local government chairmanship candidates, ₦1.5 million for state assembly contestants, and ₦100,000 for councillorship candidates.
According to the agency, the permit is mandatory for all political parties and aspirants intending to use billboards, posters, branded vehicles, banners, rallies, public address systems and other outdoor campaign materials within the state.
Officials explained that the decision is aimed at maintaining order, reducing environmental pollution, protecting public infrastructure, and ensuring fair access to advertising spaces during election campaigns.
The agency further stated that all campaign materials must be vetted and approved by relevant regulatory authorities before deployment, warning that enforcement teams will be deployed across the state to ensure compliance.
It also cautioned political actors and supporters against the destruction or removal of opponents’ campaign materials, stressing that violators would face sanctions under state regulations.
The development is expected to spark debate among political stakeholders over the rising cost of campaigning and regulatory control ahead of the 2027 elections.
