2027: Dele Momodu Defends Atiku, Rejects Calls for Him to Quit Presidential Race

By Kehinde Awosina

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has declared that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar cannot be intimidated or pressured into abandoning his 2027 presidential ambition.

Speaking during an interview on ARISE NEWS, Momodu dismissed growing calls for Atiku to step aside for Peter Obi or support a proposed Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, presidential elections in Nigeria are not won through emotions, regional sentiments or social media popularity, but through strong political structures, strategy and nationwide support.

Momodu described the campaign urging Atiku to withdraw from the race as “well-coordinated,” insisting that the former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate has every constitutional right to contest the election.

He argued that Atiku, having spent decades building political relationships and structures across the country, understands the dynamics of Nigerian politics and should not be bullied out of the contest.

Questioning why Atiku is repeatedly being asked to step down for Obi, Momodu recalled that the former vice president selected Obi as his running mate during the 2019 presidential election, yet the ticket did not secure victory at the polls.

The Ovation publisher also cautioned Nigerians against assuming that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would automatically defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027, stressing that elections require more than online enthusiasm.

Momodu further maintained that debates around zoning and political permutations should not distract Nigerians from pressing national issues such as insecurity, poor electricity supply and economic hardship.
