2027: NDC Officially Unveils Peter Obi as Presidential Flagbearer

 By Kehinde Awosina

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially announced former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made during the party’s special convention, where key leaders and delegates gathered to finalize preparations for the upcoming polls. Obi’s emergence followed what party officials described as a consensus arrangement aimed at strengthening the opposition’s chances ahead of the election.

Party leaders said the decision was reached after wide consultations within the NDC, noting that Obi’s popularity, experience in governance, and national appeal influenced his selection as the flagbearer.

Obi, who has been a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics in recent years, is expected to lead the party’s campaign with a focus on economic reforms, youth empowerment, and good governance.

The convention also attracted top political figures and stakeholders, signaling what analysts describe as an early intensification of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With his official unveiling, the NDC is now expected to begin full-scale campaign structuring as political parties position themselves for what is expected to be a highly competitive presidential race.
