“25 Officials Marked for Elimination by Fake DSS Squad from Abuja,” Imole Campaign Council Alleges Ahead of Osun Polls
By Kehinde Awosina
The Imole Campaign Council has alleged a secret plot to deploy fake operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) to target government and Accord Party officials ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
In a statement issued on Saturday in Osogbo, the spokesperson for the council, Pelumi Olajengbesi, claimed that intelligence reports linked the alleged operation to the opposition All Progressives Congress and its Ilerioluwa campaign structure.
According to the statement, hooded men posing as DSS operatives had allegedly been deployed to strategic towns across the state, including Ilesa, Iwo, Ikirun, Ede and Ile-Ife.
The council alleged that the operatives claimed to be a special squad from Abuja but were operating outside the authority of the state DSS command. It further claimed that about 25 prominent government and Accord Party officials had been placed on an alleged “elimination list,” with their movements reportedly being monitored.
The statement also accused unnamed opposition figures of coordinating intimidation campaigns, destruction of Accord campaign billboards and sponsoring thugs to disrupt political activities in parts of the state capital.
The campaign council further alleged an increased inflow of arms into several towns across the state, warning that the development could threaten peace and security ahead of the election.
While commending the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for what it described as efforts toward fair policing in the state, the council urged the Director-General of the DSS to immediately investigate the allegations and halt what it termed an “unauthorised operation.”
The statement also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and prevent the escalation of political tension in the state.
It specifically accused the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and the Osun APC of allegedly fuelling discord ahead of the poll.
Describing the alleged plot as “dangerous” and “anti-democratic,” the council insisted it would continue to defend its members within the confines of the law while urging security agencies to remain neutral during the election period.
Neither the DSS nor the APC had officially responded to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.
