AAC Picks Sowore for 2027 Presidential Race as He Steps Down as Chairman

Human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, has resigned from his position as National Chairman of the African Action Congress following his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Sowore reportedly stepped down during the party’s convention after stakeholders unanimously agreed on his nomination as the African Action Congress flag bearer for the next presidential race.

The development marks another bid for the presidency by the former presidential aspirant, who has remained one of the prominent opposition voices in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Party leaders said the decision was part of efforts to reposition the AAC ahead of the 2027 elections and ensure a smooth leadership transition within the party structure.

Following Sowore’s resignation, the party announced Samuel Ajeigbe as the new National Chairman of the AAC.

Ajeigbe is expected to oversee the affairs of the party and coordinate its political activities as campaigns and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to intensify.

The AAC leadership expressed confidence that the new arrangement would strengthen the party’s internal structure and improve its preparations for the upcoming electoral contest.
