Accord Party Calls for Immediate Release of Detained Supporter, Alleges Political Intimidation in Osun

The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Pastor Victor Akande, has called on the State Commissioner of Police to order the immediate release of Mr. Owoeye Muyiwa, who has reportedly been held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for three days.

In a statement issued on May 22, 2026, Akande alleged that Muyiwa’s detention was carried out on the instruction of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi through his police orderly.

According to the party, Muyiwa, a supporter of Governor Ademola Adeleke and member of the Accord Party, was arrested after a billboard promoting Adeleke was mounted at his family residence.

The Accord Party further alleged that the arrest may be linked to political pressure on Muyiwa to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move he reportedly resisted.

It was also claimed that attempts were made to implicate him in the alleged vandalisation of APC billboards, but witnesses presented to identify him reportedly denied seeing him engage in any such act, effectively exonerating him.

Despite what the party described as a lack of credible evidence, Muyiwa remains in custody, with officials at the State CID reportedly stating that only the Commissioner of Police can authorise his release.

Describing the situation as an act of intimidation, Pastor Akande said the continued detention reflects growing political harassment against Accord Party members in Ijesaland.

“We respectfully call on the Commissioner of Police to ensure the immediate release of Mr. Owoeye Muyiwa without further delay. No citizen should be subjected to unlawful detention or political intimidation for expressing support for a political leader or exercising his lawful rights,” he said.

The party also urged the Inspector-General of Police, traditional institutions, and democratic observers to take note of what it described as increasing violations of citizens’ rights in the region.

Akande stressed that security agencies must remain professional and impartial, warning that democracy could be undermined if political intimidation is allowed to persist.

“Our people should not be pushed to the wall through acts of intimidation and harassment. Democracy must be protected, and the rights of citizens must be respected at all times,” the statement added.
