The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has confirmed its three presidential hopefuls—Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen—for its direct primary election scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2026, as the party moves closer to selecting its flagbearer ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to reports from the party’s screening committee, all three aspirants successfully scaled through the vetting process conducted in Abuja, earning clearance to contest in the crucial primary.
The trio—former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and economist Mohammed Hayatu-Deen—are now set to battle for the ADC presidential ticket in what is expected to be a competitive internal contest.
Party officials also disclosed that alongside the presidential race, hundreds of aspirants for National Assembly and governorship positions were cleared to participate in the party’s primaries nationwide, signaling a broader internal electoral process within the ADC.
The primary election, which will be conducted through a direct voting system, is expected to determine the party’s standard bearer for the 2027 general election as opposition realignments continue to shape Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
