ADC Shifts Presidential, Governorship Screenings to May 18 Over Security Concerns

 By Kehinde Awosina

The African Democratic Congress has announced the postponement of its presidential and governorship screening exercise earlier fixed for this weekend, rescheduling it to Monday, May 18, 2026.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the adjustment became necessary as part of ongoing administrative and security considerations ahead of its internal electoral process.

According to the statement, the screening of federal lawmaker aspirants from areas affected by the current security challenges in parts of Northern Nigeria will now be conducted in Abuja instead of their initial locations.

The party explained that all affected aspirants would be contacted directly with fresh schedules and additional information regarding the exercise.

ADC expressed regret over any inconvenience the postponement may cause to aspirants and stakeholders, while appealing for understanding and cooperation from party members across the country.

The development comes as political parties intensify preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with aspirants across various positions seeking clearance through party screening exercises before the commencement of primary elections.
