After 23 Years in Lagos Assembly, Obasa Secures APC Ticket for Agege Reps Seat

Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, marking a major turning point in his long political career.
Obasa secured the party’s ticket during the APC primary election held across the 13 political wards in Agege, where he reportedly emerged unopposed following wide endorsement from delegates and party stakeholders.
The development comes days after the six-term lawmaker officially declared his intention to contest for the federal seat after over two decades in the Lagos Assembly. Obasa said party leaders and stakeholders in Agege persuaded him to seek national representation, describing the move as “another chapter” in his legislative journey.
Obasa has represented Agege Constituency I in the Lagos Assembly since 2003 and has remained one of the most influential figures in Lagos politics. He first became Speaker in 2015 and returned to the position in 2025 after a brief leadership crisis within the Assembly.
During his declaration, the lawmaker urged APC members in Agege to remain united ahead of the 2027 general elections. He also threw his weight behind former Agege Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Egunjobi, and other APC aspirants seeking legislative positions in the area.
Political observers say Obasa’s transition from the state legislature to the National Assembly could significantly reshape the political structure in Agege and Lagos APC ahead of 2027.
