APC Declares Chinda Rivers Governorship Candidate for 2027 Polls

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, a serving member of the House of Representatives and current Minority Leader, as its governorship candidate for Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declaration was made on Thursday in Port Harcourt by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Primary Election Committee and Returning Officer, Bitrus Kwamoti, who announced that Chinda emerged as the party’s flag bearer after a largely uncontested primary.

According to the committee, Chinda was the sole aspirant in the race and was returned elected after polling a total of 268,497 affirmation votes across the 23 local government areas of the state.

Kwamoti, while declaring the result at the APC Secretariat, said the process was conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines, noting that collation officers from all LGAs submitted results before the final announcement was made.

Chinda, who is widely regarded as an ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to formally begin consultations and wider mobilisation across the state following his emergence as the party’s standard bearer.

The Rivers APC primary has continued to attract political attention, given the ongoing realignments within the state’s political structure and the influence of key stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

With the development, the APC now joins other major parties in Rivers State in positioning its candidates early for what is expected to be a highly competitive governorship race.
