APC Holds Nationwide Presidential Primaries Today as Tinubu Faces Stanley Osifo

The ruling All Progressives Congress is set to conduct its presidential primary election across the country today, Saturday, May 23, 2026, as the party begins the process of selecting its candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The exercise, which will take place in 8,809 wards nationwide, is expected to be conducted through the direct primary system, allowing registered party members at the grassroots to participate in the voting process.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seeking the party’s ticket for a second term and will face a challenge from businessman and politician Stanley Osifo, who emerged as the only aspirant contesting against the incumbent president for the APC nomination.
Party officials described the exercise as a transparent and inclusive process designed to strengthen internal democracy within the APC. According to the party’s timetable, results from the ward-level voting will be collated at local government areas before being transmitted to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja on Sunday, May 24.
Security agencies have also been placed on alert to monitor the exercise and maintain order across voting centres nationwide.
The primary election is seen as a major political test ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially as the APC seeks to consolidate its hold on power amid growing opposition realignments and economic concerns in the country.
Political observers believe President Tinubu remains the frontrunner in the contest due to his influence within the party structure, though the emergence of Osifo introduces a competitive element to the race.
