The ruling All Progressives Congress has nominated the current Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Obafemi Hazmat, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election.

Hazmat accepted the nomination on Thursday, expressing gratitude to party leaders, members, and supporters across the state for the confidence reposed in him.

In a statement released after his emergence, the deputy governor described the nomination as a great honour and pledged to continue the developmental agenda that has shaped Lagos over the years.

Reflecting on his background, Hazmat said his political journey began in Mushin and was built on hard work, public service, and a commitment to improving the lives of ordinary residents.

He noted that his experience serving Lagos in different capacities over the last two decades had exposed him to the complexities of governing a megacity, adding that leadership requires vision, courage, and dedication to the people.

According to him, his ambition to govern the state is driven by the desire to build “a Lagos that works better for everyone,” regardless of social or economic status.

The APC candidate promised an inclusive administration that would prioritise transportation, job creation, education, healthcare, security, and economic opportunities for residents across the state.

Hazmat said the government under his leadership would focus on ensuring that no resident is left behind, while creating an environment where young people can pursue greater opportunities irrespective of their backgrounds.

He also praised the achievements recorded by successive administrations in Lagos, saying the state has continued to make progress due to consistent leadership and long-term planning.

The deputy governor thanked Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, and Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their support and guidance.

He further appreciated the Governance Advisory Council, APC stakeholders, and party members across the 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of the state for backing his candidacy.

Hazmat also acknowledged the support of his family, especially his wife, Oluremi, and their children, describing them as a source of strength throughout his political journey.

He urged Lagosians to support his vision ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that collective effort would be needed to sustain the growth and development of the state.

“The stakes in 2027 are high, but with your partnership, we will keep Lagos moving forward and continue building a future we can all be proud of,” he stated.
