APC Unveils Damilola Sonayon-James as Lagos Deputy Governorship Candidate Ahead of 2027 Election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has officially unveiled Damilola Sonayon-James as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections, marking a key milestone in the party’s early preparations to retain control of Nigeria’s commercial capital.

The announcement, which has been widely reported across political and social media platforms, confirms Sonayon-James as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, as the APC begins strategic mobilisation ahead of the next election cycle.

Party insiders say the decision followed internal consultations and broad stakeholder alignment within the Lagos APC structure, with support reportedly coming from key political blocs and senior figures in the state.

Damilola Sonayon-James is a grassroots politician and public service administrator with growing influence within the Lagos APC political structure. She currently serves in a leadership capacity within the party in Lagos and is known for her involvement in grassroots mobilisation and women-focused political engagement.

She previously served as a supervisory councillor for Agriculture and Social Services in Badagry West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), where she was involved in community development programmes and local governance initiatives.

Beyond politics, she is also described as a sustainability and business professional with experience in human resources, logistics, and environmental governance. She is reportedly the Chief Executive Officer of DGS Chauffeurs & Logistics, a private enterprise focused on transport and service delivery.

Academically, she holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) and a degree in Business and Human Resources Management from the University of Hull in the United Kingdom.

Her emergence is being interpreted as part of the APC’s broader strategy to strengthen grassroots penetration across Lagos State, particularly in areas such as Badagry, where she reportedly enjoys strong local influence.

Political observers say the ticket reflects the party’s effort to balance experience, regional representation, and internal party consolidation as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 elections.

The APC is expected to formally present the Hamzat–Sonayon-James ticket in an official ceremony in the coming days, as campaign activities gradually gain momentum across the state.
