Basiru Warns APC Candidates: Your 2027 Tickets Mean Nothing Without Oyebamiji’s Victory
By Kehinde Awosina
National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), , has urged party members in Osun State to unite behind the governorship ambition of , warning that the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections depend largely on securing victory in the forthcoming governorship poll.
Basiru made the remarks while addressing Local Government Education Authority chairmen and board members in Osogbo, stressing that APC members must work tirelessly to ensure Oyebamiji emerges victorious in the August 15 governorship election.
The former senator cautioned aspiring National Assembly and State House of Assembly candidates against complacency, arguing that their electoral prospects could be severely weakened if the APC fails to reclaim power in the state. According to him, holding party tickets would be meaningless without a strong governorship victory to drive the party's momentum ahead of the 2027 elections.
Reflecting on his own political experience, Basiru said the APC’s loss in the 2022 Osun governorship election contributed significantly to challenges faced by party candidates during the 2023 general elections. He maintained that winning the governorship contest would provide a solid platform for future electoral success across the state.
The APC chieftain also called on party members to reconcile differences and mobilise support across all communities, insisting that victory would not come automatically but through strategic grassroots engagement and unity of purpose.
In a related development, Basiru distanced the APC from comments allegedly made by some party members against civil servants in Osun State. He said individuals who publicly criticised the state's workforce were expressing personal opinions and did not represent the official position of the party.
His comments come as political activities intensify ahead of the Osun governorship election, with Oyebamiji emerging as the APC flagbearer and positioning himself as the party’s candidate to challenge for power in the state.
