Chelsea Set to Unveil Xabi Alonso as New Manager
By Kehinde Awosina
Chelsea are reportedly on the verge of appointing former Spanish midfielder and coach Xabi Alonso as their new manager after positive talks between both parties reached an advanced stage.According to multiple reports circulating across football media and social platforms on Saturday, Alonso has accepted Chelsea’s proposal in principle, with the club now preparing the final details of the agreement before an official announcement. Reports claim the deal could see the 44-year-old sign a long-term contract at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have been searching for a permanent manager since the dismissal of Liam Rosenior last month, with several names linked to the role, including Andoni Iraola, Marco Silva and Oliver Glasner. However, Alonso quickly emerged as the club’s preferred candidate following internal discussions among Chelsea’s sporting leadership.
The former Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid coach is believed to have demanded assurances over transfer influence and long-term project stability before agreeing to the move.
Football transfer insider Fabrizio Romano also fueled the speculation with his famous “Here We Go” confirmation, stating that Alonso had said “yes” to Chelsea and that an official statement is expected in the coming days. Fans across social media have reacted excitedly, with many hoping the Spaniard can restore Chelsea’s identity and competitiveness.
