Court Did Not Approve Any Akinrun — Osun Government Clarifies

The Osun State Government has reaffirmed that the Akinrun Chieftaincy Stool in Ikirun remains vacant, warning individuals against parading themselves as the Akinrun of Ikirun pending the final determination of the legal dispute surrounding the throne.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday in Osogbo, the government said the recent position of the Court of Appeal aligns with the state government’s existing stance as contained in the Executive Order, the Chieftaincy Committee Report, and the White Paper on the matter.
The statement, signed by Olufemi Ogundun, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, clarified that the Court of Appeal did not order the installation or recognition of any individual as the Akinrun of Ikirunland.
According to the government, the stool remains vacant while awaiting the final judgment of the Court of Appeal in the case filed by the Gboleru Ruling House, which now also involves the two other ruling houses in Ikirun.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Akinrun Stool remains vacant, and the Court of Appeal has not ordered the installation or recognition of anybody as the Akinrun of Ikirun Land,” the statement read.
The government further warned anyone allegedly presenting himself as the monarch or engaging in activities capable of causing unrest in Ikirunland to desist immediately.
It stressed that any person found disturbing the peace in the community would be held responsible for such actions.
The state government also reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace, progress, and development in Ikirunland, assuring residents that due process would be followed in resolving the chieftaincy dispute.
Residents and all parties involved in the matter were urged to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding while awaiting the final decision of the Court of Appeal.
