A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted bail to former governor of Kaduna State; Mallam Nasir El-Rufai in the sum of ₦100 million over allegations linked to the unlawful interception of phone conversations involving the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling on Monday, ordered the former Kaduna State governor to provide one surety in like sum as part of the bail conditions.
The court further directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro areas of Abuja. The surety is also required to submit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property to the court registry.
Reports indicated that the Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned El-Rufai on a five-count charge bordering on alleged national security violations and unlawful interception of communications.
As part of the conditions attached to the bail, the former governor was also ordered to surrender his international passport pending the determination of the case. Some reports added that he would be required to make periodic appearances before security authorities during the trial.
El-Rufai, who served as governor of Kaduna State from 2015 to 2023, has continued to maintain his innocence over the allegations filed against him.
