Former Cross River State Governor, Donald Duke, has officially entered the race for the 2027 presidency after being cleared as a presidential aspirant by the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) ahead of its upcoming primary election.

The party’s presidential primary is scheduled to hold on May 25, where Duke will contest alongside two other approved aspirants.

The cleared candidates include Dr. Nnaoke Ufere from Abia State and Engr. Yakubu Mohammed Kingsley from Edo State, all of whom have been screened and confirmed eligible to participate in the exercise.

According to party sources, the three aspirants have also pledged to abide by the outcome of the primaries, a move described as part of efforts to promote internal democracy and unity within the PRP.

Donald Duke, a former governor known for his reform-driven administration in Cross River State, now joins the growing list of political figures positioning themselves for the 2027 general elections.

The PRP leadership is expected to conclude preparations for the primaries in the coming days as it works to present its candidate for the presidential contest.

The development marks another early build-up in Nigeria’s political landscape as parties begin to mobilize ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
