Ebola Outbreak Claims Over 130 Lives in DR Congo as Cases Spread

 By Kehinde Awosina

At least 131 people have reportedly died following a fresh outbreak of the deadly Ebola virus disease in the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to information circulating on social media and international reports.

Authorities in DR Congo disclosed that confirmed and suspected cases are now being recorded across a wider area, raising concerns among health officials over the rapid spread of the disease and the growing humanitarian challenge confronting affected communities.

The outbreak has triggered renewed fears across Central Africa, with health experts warning that the situation could worsen if urgent containment measures are not strengthened.

According to reports, the response effort is being complicated by several factors, including insecurity in some affected regions, poor access to healthcare facilities, public mistrust, and difficulties in tracking infected persons and their contacts.

Ebola is a severe and often fatal viral disease that spreads through direct contact with infected bodily fluids, contaminated materials, or infected animals. Symptoms usually include fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhea, and in severe cases, internal and external bleeding.

The Democratic Republic of Congo has experienced multiple Ebola outbreaks over the years, making it one of the countries most affected by the virus globally. Health agencies and international partners are currently intensifying surveillance, treatment, vaccination, and public awareness campaigns aimed at containing the latest outbreak.

Global health observers continue to monitor the situation closely as authorities work to prevent further loss of lives and stop the virus from spreading beyond affected communities.
