Former Foreign Minister Tuggar Loses Bauchi APC Guber Ticket
By Kehinde Awosina
Former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has lost the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 election in Bauchi State, dealing a major blow to his political ambition ahead of the next general election.
Tuggar, who resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet earlier this year to pursue the governorship race, had emerged as one of the leading aspirants in the fiercely contested APC primary in Bauchi. His campaign gained momentum in recent weeks following consultations with party stakeholders and public declarations across the state.
The former minister had repeatedly described himself as a loyal party member and pledged to abide by whatever decision the APC reached regarding the governorship contest, whether through consensus or direct primaries.
Political observers say the outcome reflects the deep internal calculations within the Bauchi APC as the party intensifies efforts to reclaim the state from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party ahead of 2027. The contest had attracted several heavyweight aspirants, making the race one of the most closely watched governorship battles in the North-East.
Before joining the governorship race, Tuggar had publicly unveiled plans focused on agriculture, rural development, youth empowerment and economic expansion, insisting that Bauchi’s vast resources could be better harnessed to improve living conditions across the state.
The APC is yet to officially release a detailed statement on the implications of the primary outcome, but reactions have already started trailing the development across political circles and social media platforms in Bauchi and beyond.
