A new political development has emerged in Rivers State as a brother to the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election, pledging to serve only a single term if elected.
The governorship hopeful made the declaration during a political engagement with supporters, where he outlined his vision for the state and emphasized what he described as a commitment to rotational leadership and political stability.
He stated that his ambition is driven by a desire to consolidate governance achievements and promote continuity in development, while assuring that he would not stay beyond four years in office if given the mandate.
According to him, his decision to run is not rooted in personal ambition alone, but in what he called a responsibility to contribute to the progress of Rivers State at a critical time in its political and economic journey.
The declaration is already generating political reactions within the state, as observers note that it could further reshape alliances and intensify early maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections.
Rivers politics has remained highly competitive in recent years, with stakeholders closely watching emerging contenders and shifting loyalties within the state’s political landscapes.
