Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour Emerges ADC Lagos Gubernatorial Flagbearer After Direct Primary Election
By Kehinde Awosina
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially announced Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour as its governorship candidate for Lagos State following the conclusion of its direct primary election.
According to party officials and confirmation emerging from the exercise, Rhodes-Vivour secured the highest number of votes to clinch the ticket, defeating other aspirants in a keenly contested process conducted under the party’s internal democratic guidelines.
The development further consolidates Rhodes-Vivour’s position within the ADC, where he has remained a prominent political figure since formally aligning with the party’s coalition structure ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Rhodes-Vivour, a former Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2023 Lagos State election, where he finished as runner-up to incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has continued to maintain a strong presence in Lagos opposition politics. He is widely regarded as one of the leading young opposition voices in the state.
His emergence as ADC’s candidate is expected to reshape the political landscape in Lagos as parties begin early mobilization ahead of the next governorship cycle.
As of press time, the ADC leadership is yet to release full official figures from the primary election, but party sources insist the process was free, fair, and reflective of internal party democracy.
Rhodes-Vivour is expected to formally accept the nomination in the coming days and outline his campaign direction for the forthcoming elections.
