Gunmen Storm Emir’s Palace in Kwara Community, Abduct Women and Children

Fear has spread through Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed men reportedly invaded the palace of the traditional ruler and kidnapped several residents, including women and children.


Eyewitnesses said the attackers struck in the early hours of Monday, around 12:40 a.m., shooting sporadically for over an hour before breaking into the palace compound.


During the assault, the gunmen were said to have targeted the Emir’s residence, where they whisked away about five people, including wives and children of the monarch.


The assailants were also reported to have set parts of the palace on fire and destroyed some vehicles within the premises, leaving significant damage behind.


Residents described the incident as terrifying, noting that many people fled into nearby bushes to escape the attack as gunshots echoed across the community.


After carrying out the operation, the attackers reportedly left the area with the abducted victims, leaving behind destruction and panic in their wake.


Security authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while residents continue to appeal for urgent intervention and stronger security presence to prevent further attacks.
