Supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress trooped out in large numbers across the country on Saturday as the party affirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

The nationwide presidential primary exercise witnessed massive participation from party members, governors, lawmakers and grassroots supporters in several states including Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina, Delta and Kano. Reports from different polling centres described the exercise as peaceful, with party leaders expressing confidence ahead of the next general elections.

President Tinubu, who voted at Ward L2, Ireti Primary School in Ikoyi, Lagos, expressed excitement over the turnout, saying the support from party members would further motivate him. APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, also said the impressive participation reflected the party’s growing grassroots strength across rural communities and urban centres.

In Katsina State, Governor Dikko Umar Radda described the exercise as a sign of political maturity and predicted victory for Tinubu and APC candidates in the 2027 elections. He noted that party members freely participated in the process, adding that the peaceful conduct of the primary demonstrated confidence in the APC administration.

Similarly, APC stakeholders in Kaduna State unanimously endorsed Tinubu’s second-term ambition during the exercise conducted across the state’s 255 wards. Party leaders described the turnout as a strong indication of unity within the ruling party ahead of the next election cycle.

In Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori urged party supporters to mobilise massively for the primary, expressing optimism that the APC would record overwhelming votes for Tinubu during the affirmation process.

The APC is expected to formally present Tinubu with the party flag and certificate of return as its presidential candidate during an event scheduled to hold in Abuja. Governors, members of the National Executive Committee and other top party officials are expected at the ceremony.
