“I Cannot Accept a Process Built on Disenfranchisement” — Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results

 By Kehinde Awosina

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has strongly rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primaries, describing the exercise as compromised and inconsistent with democratic standards.

Amaechi, who was one of the aspirants in the contest, said reports emerging from the election indicate widespread disenfranchisement of party members across the country, alleging that a significant proportion of eligible voters were unable to participate in the process.

He maintained that he had earlier made his position clear that he would only accept the outcome of the primaries if it was conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner, insisting that the process failed to meet those conditions.

According to him, it is unacceptable that a large number of party members were allegedly denied the opportunity to vote, warning that such practices undermine the credibility and purpose of internal party democracy.

The former minister further argued that the ADC was established to provide Nigerians with a credible political alternative that upholds fairness, inclusivity, and accountability, stressing that any process resembling the electoral flaws the party criticizes in others cannot be tolerated.

He also cautioned that a political party which condemns vote buying and electoral malpractice cannot afford to be associated with similar practices, including manipulation of results and voter exclusion.

Amaechi concluded by firmly distancing himself from the announced results, stating that he would not accept what he described as a “concocted outcome” of the primaries.

The ADC presidential primary has continued to generate reactions from stakeholders amid growing concerns over transparency and internal party cohesion.
