Kwara APC Delays Governorship Primary Amid Consensus Move for Abdulfatai Seriki

 By Kehinde Awosina

The All Progressives Congress in Kwara State has postponed its governorship primary election earlier scheduled for Thursday to Friday, May 22, 2026.

The development was confirmed by the party’s spokesperson, Abdulwaheed Babatunde, while the state chairman of the APC, Sunday Fagbemi, disclosed that the decision followed directives from the party’s national headquarters.

The postponement came shortly after eight governorship aspirants announced their withdrawal from the race in support of Abdulfatai Seriki, who is widely regarded as the preferred candidate of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The aspirants, in separate remarks, said their decision was aimed at preserving unity within the party and ensuring continuity ahead of the 2027 general election.

They also noted that rallying behind a consensus candidate would strengthen the APC’s chances of retaining power in Kwara State.

The postponement has generated fresh political discussions within the state, as party members and stakeholders continue consultations ahead of the rescheduled primary election.
