Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has formally announced his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, unveiling his ambition during a massive rally organised by the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement in Ibadan.

The event, which drew thousands of supporters, party members, youth groups, and political stakeholders from across the state, marked a major moment in the build-up to the 2027 general elections. Makinde, while addressing the crowd, said Nigeria needs purposeful leadership, unity, and policies focused on economic growth, security, and national development.

The governor assured supporters that his administration’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic reforms in Oyo State have prepared him for greater national responsibility. He also called for stronger cooperation among opposition parties to provide what he described as a credible alternative for Nigerians.

Leaders of the PDP–APM alliance at the rally praised Makinde’s leadership style and described his declaration as a bold step capable of reshaping the country’s political direction ahead of the next presidential election.

Political observers say the declaration may intensify consultations and alignments within opposition circles as preparations for 2027 continue to gather momentum across the country.
