The All Progressives Congress in Borno State has produced Engr. Mustapha Gubio as its governorship candidate for the 2027 general election following the party’s primary election held in Maiduguri.

Gubio, a seasoned engineer and politician, emerged after receiving the support of major stakeholders within the ruling party in the state. His emergence is seen by many party members as a continuation of the developmental agenda of the administration led by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.

Before joining the governorship race, Gubio served as Commissioner for Works and Housing in Borno State, where he supervised several infrastructure and reconstruction projects across communities affected by insurgency.

He also played key roles in the state’s Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR) programmes aimed at rebuilding areas devastated by insecurity and helping displaced residents return to their communities.

In the weeks leading to the primary election, Gubio gained wider political support after receiving endorsements from prominent APC stakeholders in the state, including Governor Zulum.

Party supporters at the primary described his emergence as a strategic move by the APC to retain power in Borno and sustain ongoing development efforts across the state.
