The Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of , , has expressed support for the economic reforms being implemented by President while advocating for a new national minimum wage of N100,000 for Nigerian workers.

AbdulRazaq said the proposed wage increase is necessary to reflect prevailing economic conditions and help workers cope with the rising cost of living across the country. According to him, improving workers’ welfare remains a priority as governments at all levels seek ways to balance economic reforms with social protection measures.

The NGF chairman noted that discussions are ongoing among state governments, the Federal Government and organised labour to arrive at a wage structure that is both fair to workers and sustainable for the nation’s finances.

He stressed the importance of continued dialogue among stakeholders, expressing confidence that a mutually beneficial agreement can be reached without undermining the fiscal stability of states.

AbdulRazaq also reaffirmed the support of many governors for the Federal Government’s economic reform programme, describing the policies as critical steps toward stabilising the economy and promoting long-term growth.

His remarks come amid increasing calls from labour groups and civil society organisations for measures to ease the economic burden on Nigerians following recent reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira.

The position of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum is expected to add momentum to ongoing negotiations over workers’ wages, while highlighting the challenge of balancing economic reforms with demands for improved living standards.
