OAUSTECH Student Wins NANS Presidency With 349 Votes

A student of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, has been elected as the new President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) after a decisive victory at the association’s national convention in Abuja.


Akinteye, who previously served as NANS Senate President, secured a wide margin of victory, polling 349 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Aminu Haruna Maipanpo of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, who scored 12 votes. Another aspirant, Olumide Odumosu Josiah of Olabisi Onabanjo University, also participated in the contest and polled 10 votes.


The election, which featured five candidates for the presidency, was conducted under tight security presence, with personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services deployed to ensure order throughout the exercise. The process was widely described as peaceful, with no reports of violence or disruption.


In his acceptance speech, Akinteye expressed appreciation to delegates for entrusting him with the leadership of the student body, promising to prioritize student welfare across Nigerian tertiary institutions.


He also praised the peaceful nature of the election, noting that the outcome reflected unity and maturity within the association. According to him, the convention recorded a smooth process without crises or interruptions, describing it as one of the most orderly in NANS history.


The outgoing NANS President, Comrade Olushola Oladoja, commended the successful conduct of the election, describing it as a key achievement of his administration and expressing confidence in the capacity of the new leadership.


Following the announcement, the National Association of NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) Lagos congratulated the new president, describing his emergence as a reflection of confidence reposed in him by Nigerian students and pledging support for his administration.
