Obi Picks Kwankwaso as Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Race

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has announced former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. 


The development is expected to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections, as both politicians remain influential figures with strong support bases across different regions of the country. 


Obi, who emerged as the presidential flag bearer of the NDC, reportedly unveiled Kwankwaso as part of efforts to strengthen the party’s national appeal and build a formidable opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 polls. 


Kwankwaso, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, has long been linked with possible alliance talks involving Obi and other opposition figures. Political observers believe the partnership could alter existing alignments as parties intensify preparations for the election season. 


The announcement has already generated reactions across political circles, with supporters describing the ticket as a major coalition capable of challenging the ruling party in 2027.
