Obokun 2027: Leovest Kicks Against Alleged Imposition of Irekandu as Accord Candidate
By Kehinde Awosina
An aspirant for the Obokun State Constituency seat in the Osun State House of Assembly, Amb. Dr. Olatunji Awodiran, popularly known as “Leovest,” has expressed disappointment over what he described as the imposition of Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Irekandu as the Accord Party’s flag bearer ahead of the 2027 general election.
Awodiran, a grassroots mobiliser and one of the aspirants seeking to represent Obokun State Constituency, frowned at the emergence of Irekandu for what would reportedly be a third term bid under the Accord Party.
In a statement made available to supporters and members of the party, Leovest lamented that the decision was taken even before a proper political contest could begin, noting that it had dashed the hopes of several loyal party members who had committed resources and time towards strengthening the party ahead of the election.
“I am deeply disappointed. We had not even begun the political contest, yet the decision to impose a candidate has abruptly cut short the aspirations and political careers of hundreds of committed individuals who had invested their time, energy, and resources to mobilise for our party,” he stated.
The aspirant argued that the alleged imposition was not only unfair to affected aspirants but also a threat to democratic principles, inclusiveness, and equal opportunity within the political system.
According to him, the practice of handpicking candidates instead of allowing a transparent and credible process discourages loyal party members, silences genuine voices, and weakens public confidence in the democratic process.
“When candidates are imposed rather than chosen through a transparent and credible process, it discourages loyal party members, silences genuine voices, and weakens the confidence of the people in the system,” he added.
Despite his grievances, Awodiran appreciated the people of Obokun Constituency for their support and encouragement, assuring them of his continued commitment to the progress and development of the constituency.
He further prayed for peace, unity, and prosperity across Obokun communities, while reiterating his belief in a better future for the constituency.
