Obokun APC Primary: Folahan Adeniyi Emerges, Eyes Revenge Against Irekandu in 2027

 By Kehinde Awosina

The political atmosphere in Obokun State Constituency of Osun State is beginning to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election as the All Progressives Congress (APC) has produced Hon. Samuel Folahan Adeniyi as its candidate for the State House of Assembly election.

Folahan Adeniyi emerged victorious in the APC primary election conducted across the local government on Wednesday, defeating other aspirants including Hon. Akin Omidiji and Hon. Gbenga Faloo to secure the party’s ticket.

His emergence has now set the stage for a keenly anticipated rematch between him and the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi, popularly known as Irekandu, who is expected to fly the flag of the Accord Party in the 2027 Osun State House of Assembly election.

The two politicians previously faced each other during the 2023 election when Irekandu, then contesting under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), defeated Folahan Adeniyi of the APC to win the Obokun State Constituency seat.

Political observers in the constituency believe the forthcoming contest may be one of the most closely watched legislative battles in Osun State, considering the rivalry and political history between both candidates.

Supporters of Folahan Adeniyi have described his victory at the APC primary as a reflection of growing confidence in his leadership and grassroots structure within the constituency.

With the primary election concluded, attention is now shifting to the 2027 general election as parties begin mobilization and strategic consultations across Obokun State Constituency.
