Okowa Secures APC Senatorial Ticket as Daughter Picks Assembly Ticket in Delta

Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Delta North ahead of the 2027 general election, while his daughter, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, secured the party’s ticket for the Delta North East Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly.

The outcome of the APC primaries marks another major political victory for the Okowa family, further consolidating the former governor’s influence within the ruling party in Delta State.

Okowa reportedly defeated incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko, during the keenly contested APC Delta North senatorial primary election held across the district. Party supporters celebrated the victory in several parts of the state shortly after the results emerged.

His daughter, Marilyn Okowa-Daramola, also emerged victorious in the APC primary for Delta North East Constituency, positioning her as one of the younger political figures expected to play a significant role in the state’s politics ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okowa, who served as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) vice presidential candidate alongside Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election, defected to the APC in 2025 alongside Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several political office holders in the state.

The development is widely seen as part of the ongoing political realignment in Delta State as APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general election. Political observers say the victories recorded by Okowa and his daughter may further reshape the balance of power within the party in the state.
