“Osun Is Proud to Have Tinubu as President” — Adeleke Explains 2027 Endorsement

 By Kehinde Awosina

Governor Ademola Adeleke has explained why his administration and political structure endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027, describing the decision as one driven by morality, development, and the collective interest of Osun State and the Yoruba people.

The governor made the remarks on Sunday during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ile Ife–Ilesa Expressway, where he praised the Federal Government for the pace and quality of work on the project.

According to Adeleke, supporting President Tinubu goes beyond party affiliation, stressing that the President remains “a son, father and leader” of the Yoruba nation who deserves the backing of his people.

“I am the governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President. How can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him?” Adeleke said.

He added that Osun people consider themselves fortunate to have one of their own occupying Nigeria’s highest political office, noting that such an opportunity should be appreciated irrespective of political divisions.

The governor also acknowledged the role of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, joking that the Lagos governor might consider himself “luckier,” but maintained that Osun remains proud of President Tinubu’s roots in the state.

Adeleke further commended the Federal Government for infrastructure projects currently ongoing in Osun, especially the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Ile Ife–Ilesa Expressway, which he said would improve economic activities and transportation across the state.

He disclosed that his administration had also rehabilitated several federal roads since assuming office in 2022, while over 300 kilometres of state roads had equally been reconstructed under his government.

The governor expressed optimism that the Federal Government would refund the state for federal roads rehabilitated by the Osun government.

He also appreciated President Tinubu for approving the reconstruction of the Ibadan–Iwo–Osogbo Road and the Gbongan–Akoda Road, while hinting that he would soon request federal approval for the reconstruction of the Osogbo–Ilesa Road.

Speaking on the political situation in Osun ahead of the August 15 elections, Adeleke vowed that his administration would ensure credible and transparent polls.

The governor took a swipe at former Osun State Governor Gboyega Oyetola, accusing him of attempting to undermine the President’s image in the state.

“As a governor of the president’s ancestral state, we will not allow selfish politicians such as the President’s cousin, Gboyega Oyetola, to tarnish the image of Mr President in Osun State,” Adeleke stated.

He insisted that President Tinubu has consistently advocated for free and fair elections and assured residents that his government would work within the law to uphold democratic principles during the forthcoming polls.
