Osun State Government Slams APC Over PHC Report, Says State Still Leads South-West in Healthcare Delivery

 By Kehinde Awosina

The Osun State Government has accused the opposition All Progressives Congress in Osun State of twisting a report by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency to discredit Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration.

In a statement issued in Osogbo on Saturday, Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the report referenced inactive primary healthcare centres across Nigeria and was not a ranking of state healthcare performance.

According to him, Osun remains the leading state in primary healthcare delivery in the South-West, citing the Nigeria Governors’ Forum Primary Healthcare Leadership Challenge where the state emerged zonal champion in both 2024 and 2025.

Alimi noted that the assessment covered governance, funding, equity, and facility upgrades, adding that Osun also improved nationally from 26th position in 2023 to 4th in 2024 and 3rd among the top-performing states in 2025.

The commissioner said the Adeleke administration had invested heavily in revitalising the health sector since assuming office in 2022. He explained that approval was granted for the renovation of 332 focal primary healthcare centres across the state’s wards, including installation of solar power and water supply systems.

He disclosed that 200 centres had already been upgraded, while work continues on the remaining facilities in phases despite financial challenges allegedly linked to withheld local government allocations.

The government also highlighted reforms aimed at improving workers’ welfare, including the implementation of Grade Level 09 entry point for nurses and payment of 100 per cent hazard allowance for healthcare workers.

Alimi further stated that the administration had supplied drugs and medical equipment to health centres while establishing standard laboratories across local government areas to strengthen healthcare delivery.

The commissioner dismissed claims by the APC that the Adeleke administration had taken the health sector backward, insisting that visible improvements and national recognition were evidence of progress in Osun’s healthcare system.
