The race for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 election has taken a dramatic turn as Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli reportedly emerged winner of the party’s governorship primary with a landslide victory over his closest rivals.

According to figures circulating on social media, Alli secured 578,143 votes to defeat former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who polled 19,193 votes, while Senator Fatai Buhari garnered 37,265 votes.

The development has generated intense reactions within political circles in Oyo State, with supporters of Alli celebrating what they described as a decisive mandate ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The APC governorship contest in the state had attracted several heavyweight politicians in recent months, with reports indicating that no fewer than 11 aspirants showed interest in the party’s ticket.

Before the primary, Alli had been widely tipped by political observers as a strong contender in the race amid growing discussions around consensus arrangements within the APC in the South-West.

Meanwhile, supporters of Adelabu and Buhari are yet to officially react to the outcome of the exercise as of the time of filing this report.

The Oyo APC governorship battle has remained one of the most closely watched political contests in the South-West ahead of the 2027 general elections, especially with the expiration of Governor Seyi Makinde’s second term next year.
