Pantami Accepts PDP Gubernatorial Ticket, Cites Fight Against Poverty in Gombe

Former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, has been officially confirmed as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Gombe State.

Pantami emerged unopposed during the party’s affirmation exercise held on Tuesday, securing overwhelming support across the state. The PDP Electoral Panel Chairman in Gombe, Gregory Yenlong, announced that the former minister polled a total of 52,955 votes from the three senatorial districts—16,781 votes in Gombe North, 12,752 in Gombe Central, and 23,422 in Gombe South.

Speaking shortly after his affirmation, Isa Ali Pantami said his decision to contest was driven by a desire to address poverty and promote inclusive development in the state rather than personal political ambition.

According to him, Gombe faces deep socioeconomic challenges that require urgent intervention, stressing that unity across ethnic and social divides must be prioritized for meaningful progress.

He noted that Gombe is among the states with the highest poverty rates in the country, estimating the poverty index at about 74.5 percent, which he said reflects widespread economic hardship among residents.

Pantami further outlined plans focused on improving education, modernizing agriculture through smart farming systems, and attracting foreign direct investment to drive industrial growth and job creation in the state.
