PDP Faction Moves to Seal Jonathan’s Presidential Ticket Ahead of 2027 Election

A faction within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party is set to ratify former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate during a scheduled meeting on Saturday, amid deepening divisions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The move is said to be part of ongoing political realignments within the PDP as different blocs continue consultations over the party’s future leadership and strategy for the next presidential contest.

Sources within the faction disclosed that the planned ratification is expected to formally present Jonathan as the preferred consensus figure capable of uniting aggrieved members and strengthening the party’s chances in the next election cycle.

The development comes at a time when the PDP has continued to battle internal crises, defections, and disagreements among key stakeholders over the direction of the party after recent electoral setbacks.

Although Jonathan has yet to publicly confirm any presidential ambition, his name has repeatedly surfaced in political discussions and coalition talks involving opposition leaders and power blocs seeking a strong challenger for the 2027 election.

Party insiders also revealed that consultations are ongoing with influential politicians and regional leaders in an effort to build wider acceptance around the former president’s possible return to frontline politics.

The planned endorsement is expected to generate fresh reactions within the PDP, especially among other presidential hopefuls and party loyalists who may oppose the emergence of a consensus arrangements.
