Protest Rocks APC in Oriade/Obokun as Members Reject Alleged Imposition of Wole Oke

Tension erupted in the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State on Friday as aggrieved members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) staged a protest in Ijebu-Jesa over the emergence of Hon. Oluwole Oke as the party’s candidate for the 2027 House of Representatives election.

The protesters, made up of party faithful and supporters from different wards across the constituency, carried placards with inscriptions such as “Stop Using Our Money to Build Schools in Cities, Oke Must Go,” “Hon Oluwole Oke Is Not Our Consensus Candidate,” “No Development for Good 24 Years, Oke Must Go,” and “Oriade/Obokun Is Not Your Property.”

The demonstration followed complaints by party members that no primary election officials arrived at designated ward centres for the conduct of the APC primary election.

According to the protesters, party faithful who had gathered in anticipation of the exercise were left stranded, fueling suspicions of an alleged plan to impose a consensus candidate on the constituency.

Chanting solidarity songs, the demonstrators insisted that all aspirants should be allowed to test their popularity through a transparent and credible primary election process.

“There must be primary. No to consensus, let party members decide,” some of the protesters shouted during the rally.

Videos from the protest, which have since circulated widely on social media, showed angry APC supporters marching through major roads in Ijebu-Jesa while demanding internal democracy within the party.

Hon. Oluwole Oke was recently picked as the APC candidate for the Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
