Tension as Man Dies During APC Reps Primary in Plateau

A tragic incident disrupted the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the House of Representatives seat in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State after a man was reportedly shot dead at the venue of the exercise.


The deceased, identified as Sani Abdullahi, was said to be a resident of the Kasuwan Ali community in Mangu. The incident reportedly occurred amid confusion surrounding the commencement of the primary election.


According to eyewitness accounts, tension rose among party supporters and security operatives over the conduct and timing of the exercise before gunshots were heard at the venue. Witnesses alleged that soldiers stationed at the scene opened fire during the disagreement, leading to the death of the victim.


The development caused panic among party members and residents, with many fleeing the area for safety as the situation became chaotic.


As of the time of filing this report, security authorities and officials of the APC were yet to issue an official statement regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting.


The incident has further heightened concerns over security and crowd control during political party activities ahead of future elections in the country.
