Tinubu Applauds NDLEA Over Major Crackdown on Nigerian-Mexican Drug Syndicate

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has praised the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for what he described as a landmark achievement in dismantling a major cross-border drug trafficking syndicate operating within Nigeria.

The President commended the anti-narcotics agency following the arrest of members of a Nigerian-Mexican drug network and the destruction of a sophisticated illegal drug production operation reportedly valued at more than $360 million.

The Chairman of the NDLEA, Mohammed Buba Marwa, announced the breakthrough on Wednesday after weeks of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations carried out with support from international partners.

Reacting to the development, Tinubu described the operation as a demonstration of professionalism, bravery and commitment by NDLEA operatives in the fight against narcotics and organised crime.

According to the President, the successful mission, which led to the arrest of foreign nationals, local drug kingpins and several collaborators, sends a strong warning to criminal networks operating in the country.

He noted that West Africa has increasingly become a major transit route for cocaine, synthetic substances and illegal pharmaceuticals destined for Europe and North America, describing the trend as a growing threat to regional security and public health.

Tinubu also expressed concern over the impact of illicit drugs on young people, warning that narcotics continue to destroy lives and expose many youths to criminal activities.

The President urged Nigerians to support security agencies by remaining vigilant and reporting suspicious movements and activities in their communities.

He further assured citizens that his administration would continue to strengthen the fight against organised crime, stressing that individuals involved in drug trafficking and other criminal acts would face the full weight of the law.
