President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of a new Registrar for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board following the exit of longtime Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, after nearly a decade at the helm of the examination body.
According to reports, the President named 40-year-old academic, Professor Segun Aina, as the new head of JAMB, bringing an end to Oloyede’s tenure which began in 2016 under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Oloyede, a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, is widely credited with transforming JAMB through reforms aimed at improving transparency, boosting revenue remittances, and strengthening the credibility of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
During his years in office, the Board witnessed major digital reforms, tighter monitoring of examination centres, and increased accountability in admissions processes across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
His tenure, however, also faced challenges in recent years, including controversies surrounding technical glitches and complaints over UTME results, especially during the 2025 examination exercise.
President Tinubu had previously praised Oloyede for his contributions to the education sector and public service, describing him as an exceptional administrator and scholar during his 70th birthday tribute in 2024.
The appointment of Professor Aina is expected to usher in a new phase for JAMB as stakeholders in the education sector look forward to continuity in reforms and improved service delivery.
