“We’ll Review Court Verdict Before Taking Action on 2027 Timetable” — INEC

 By Kehinde Awosina

The Independent National Electoral Commission has said it will carefully examine the recent court judgement that nullified aspects of its timetable for the 2027 general elections before deciding on its next line of action.

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had, on Wednesday, voided parts of the electoral timetable issued by the commission, particularly those relating to the schedule for political party primaries and the submission of candidates for the 2027 elections.

Reacting to the development, INEC stated that it would first study the details of the judgement and seek appropriate legal guidance before making any official move regarding the election calendar.

The commission noted that its legal department is already reviewing the ruling to determine its implications on preparations for the next general elections.

The court decision has generated reactions among political stakeholders, with many awaiting INEC’s next step, especially as political parties have begun consultations and internal preparations ahead of the 2027 polls.

The judgement is expected to influence the timelines for party primaries, candidate nominations, and other pre-election activities if upheld after further legal processes.

INEC, however, assured Nigerians that it remains committed to conducting credible, transparent, and constitutionally compliant elections across the country.
