"You Were Once My Boy Too” — Ganduje Replies Kwankwaso in Fresh Kano Political Clash
By Kehinde Awosina
Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has responded to recent remarks by former Kano State governor, , insisting that the relationship between them was one of political mentorship and loyalty in earlier years.
The exchange followed comments by Kwankwaso during a recent interview and meeting with supporters, where he described several politicians who rose through his political structure as having once been his protégés. In making his point, Kwankwaso cited Ganduje, stating that the former APC chairman could not deny being among those who advanced politically under his guidance.
Reacting to the statement, Ganduje acknowledged that Kwankwaso played a significant role in his political journey but stressed that political relationships evolve over time. He maintained that while he once worked closely with Kwankwaso, he has since built his own political identity and career.
The latest war of words is another chapter in the long-running rivalry between the two Kano political heavyweights, whose relationship has shifted from close alliance to open political confrontation over the years.
Both men served together in Kano State's leadership structure, with Ganduje spending eight years as deputy governor under Kwankwaso before later succeeding him as governor. Their political fallout has continued to shape Kano politics and influence alignments within major political parties in the state.
The renewed exchange comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of future elections, with both leaders remaining influential figures in northern Nigeria's political landscape.
