ADC Leadership Crisis: Court to Decide Fate of David Mark, Aregbesola Today in Abuja

 By Kehinde Awosina

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja is set to determine the fate of the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, and the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, in a suit instituted by a factional leader of the party, Nafiu Bala Gombe.

The case, which is being heard today, centres on a dispute over the authentic leadership of the ADC, with Gombe asking the court to stop Mark and Aregbesola from parading themselves as national officers of the party. He also wants the court to recognize him as the rightful leader of the party structure.

The legal action is part of the ongoing internal crisis within the ADC, which has seen rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership positions following a series of political realignments and disputes over its executive structure.

At the heart of the matter is the legitimacy of the current national working committee led by David Mark, with Rauf Aregbesola serving as national secretary, a development that has continued to generate tension within the opposition party.

The court’s decision is expected to have significant implications for the control of the ADC and could further shape the direction of the party ahead of future political activities.
