“Adeleke Never Rejected Tinubu’s Invitation; Oyetola Frustrated Move to Join APC” — Spokesperson Replies Fadahunsi
By Kehinde Awosina
The Osun State Government has dismissed claims by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi that Governor Ademola Adeleke ignored repeated invitations from President Bola Tinubu to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the allegation as an attempt to distort recent political history.
Reacting to the senator’s comments, the spokesperson to Governor Adeleke, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, stated that the governor never turned down any invitation from the President and, in fact, responded positively to efforts aimed at political discussions.
According to Rasheed, Governor Adeleke personally met with President Tinubu alongside members of his family during the period under reference. He, however, alleged that the process of the governor’s possible movement into the APC was frustrated by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, and leaders of the Osun APC.
The governor’s spokesperson argued that details surrounding the engagements between the Presidency and Adeleke were widely known and had been publicly acknowledged by individuals involved. He maintained that attempts to suggest otherwise amounted to a deliberate effort to rewrite events that were still fresh in public memory.
Rasheed further noted that despite the alleged setback, Governor Adeleke continued to demonstrate support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid, first while he remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later after his reported alignment with the Accord Party.
The spokesperson also dismissed what he described as personal attacks against the governor by Senator Fadahunsi, insisting that Adeleke continues to enjoy widespread support across Osun State due to his administration’s performance.
He said residents and indigenes of the state had continued to express appreciation for the governor’s developmental initiatives, adding that Adeleke remained confident of victory in the forthcoming August 15 governorship election.
Rasheed concluded that no amount of political criticism or alleged historical revisionism would alter what he described as the governor’s growing acceptance among the people, portraying Adeleke as a leader committed to development and grassroots governance.
