Akpabio Inaugurates Four New Senators, Charges Them on Constitutional Duty and Nation-Building

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has welcomed four newly elected senators into the National Assembly following their victories in the recent senatorial by-elections conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


The newly inaugurated lawmakers are Senator Olaka Nwogu representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Senator Envulu Anza representing Nasarawa North, Senator Ikeje Asogwu representing Enugu North, and Senator Dayo Faduyile representing Ondo South.


Speaking during their inauguration at the Senate Chamber, Akpabio congratulated the lawmakers on their successful elections and urged them to view their new positions as a call to national service rather than a mere political achievement.


According to the Senate President, membership of the Red Chamber comes with immense responsibility and a constitutional duty to advance the interests of Nigerians. He emphasized that despite differences in political affiliations, senators are united by a common obligation to serve the Federal Republic of Nigeria and promote the aspirations of the people.


Akpabio further advised the new senators to familiarize themselves with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution and the Standing Orders of the Senate, describing both documents as essential guides for effective legislative conduct and decision-making.


He noted that a sound understanding of parliamentary procedures would enable the lawmakers to contribute meaningfully to debates, lawmaking, and oversight functions of the National Assembly.


The Senate President also reaffirmed the role of the Senate as a critical institution in Nigeria’s democratic system, expressing confidence that the experience, expertise, and commitment of the newly inaugurated senators would strengthen legislative deliberations and contribute to national development.


Akpabio said the Senate remains committed to its constitutional mandate and expressed optimism that the new members would play significant roles in advancing policies and legislation aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians and deepening democratic governance across the country.

Accord Shocks APC, Wins Omisore’s Polling Unit in Osun Governorship Election

  By Abdulahi Musa  The Accord Party has won the governorship election at the polling unit of former Osun Deputy Governor and ex-National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore. Results uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that Accord secured 131 votes at Polling Unit 003, Ife Ward 1 (Moore), St. Gabriel Primary School, in Ife East Local Government Area. The APC placed second with 85 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) polled 10 votes. Other political parties recorded only a few votes at the polling unit. The development marks another early gain for Accord as the collation of results from polling units across Osun State continues.
