Atiku Picks Amaechi as Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The decision follows weeks of consultations and political negotiations within the opposition coalition as the party prepares for the presidential contest. Reports indicate that the Atiku-Amaechi ticket is expected to strengthen the ADC’s campaign by combining Atiku’s political experience with Amaechi’s influence in the South-South region.
Amaechi, who previously served as Governor of Rivers State and later as Minister of Transportation, was among the prominent figures considered for the vice-presidential slot. Party insiders believe his selection could help broaden the ADC’s support base across the southern part of the country ahead of the election.
While reports of the choice had circulated in recent days, recent confirmations indicate that Amaechi has accepted the offer to serve as Atiku’s running mate on the ADC ticket for the 2027 presidential race.
The announcement sets the stage for what political observers expect to be a highly competitive presidential election as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 polls.
