Babcock Warns Public Against Fake Certificates, Says 'First Class Upper' Does Not Exist

Babcock University has cautioned the public against fraudulent academic certificates being circulated in its name, stressing that it does not recognise the academic classification "First Class Upper" and warning that those responsible for the fake documents could face legal action. 

The university issued the warning in a public notice released on Monday after discovering forged certificates allegedly linked to the institution. One of the fake documents purported to be an honorary certificate issued by the "Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club" to an individual identified as Oderhohwo Joseph Efe for attaining a "First Class Upper." 

Describing the document as false and unauthorised, the institution stated that it did not originate from the university. It further clarified that Babcock does not issue honorary certificates to recognise undergraduate academic performance. 

According to the university, academic excellence is officially recognised only through its degree certificates and academic transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar. It emphasised that the only recognised top classification awarded by the institution is First Class Honours, adding that "First Class Upper" is not an academic classification used by the university. 

The management urged employers, government agencies, educational institutions, professional bodies, international organisations and members of the public to disregard the forged certificate and any similar documents issued outside the university's official academic processes. It also warned prospective employers and stakeholders to verify academic credentials through the university's established verification channels to avoid falling victim to certificate fraud.
